Today is Monday. Campers are here! This rental group brings their own counselors which is great, but also strange. A bunch of people are here at camp, but we are not really in charge of them, but we sometimes see and interact with them. We mostly serve them food, do their dishes, and clean their bathrooms, and smile at them in passing.
Last week we had a rental group and then there was a group here this weekend, which meant major cleaning turn around. Blegh.
This week is a lot of tying the loose ends of summer administration. It will be strange to "pack up my desk." Some staffers have already left, and more will be leaving as the week rolls onward. It seems like very few of us will be staying through Friday. We do a major, deep, end of the summer clean on Friday. That list is intimidating. But tomorrow (and the next day) have their own worries. It feels like we have been ending for a long time.
Two of the staff members who left already left early to go to school, which happens to be very near my house. Next week, I plan to have them over for dinner and it will be grand.
I'm feeling weird about leaving. I'm ready to go and I'm nervous that means not fully experiencing the goodbyes. I am too far into anticipating the next three weeks of life.
This week: Work through Friday (night?)
This Friday: Drive to Grandpa and Grandma's (2 and a half hours)
Saturday: hang with grandparents a little, drive back to the home front (4 and a half hours)
Sunday-->Friday: Staying home, lots of appointments, lots of spending time with close friends, lots of cuddling with my dog, lots of processing of camp, lots of spending time with parents. I'm telling you, these few days are going to rock.
Friday: Fly out to San Francisco (3 hours, 42 minutes + all that time at the airport security, sitting at gate, sitting on the runway, etc). WHAT. This is where the story gets crazy. My mom and I are going to visit the new home of my sister and her husband. Who knew that was going to happen any time soon? I'm so excited to see her and see the place where she works, the city where she lives, etc.
Saturday & Sunday: See the Redwood Forest!!! I have been dying to see the redwoods for years. I will probably cry. I will freak out if I think about it anymore.
Monday-->Wednesday: Explore San Fran as I'm prone to call it. I found out the aquarium is insanely close to our hotel, so that's definitely on my list of things to see. If you have recommendations of cool things to do there, let me know in a comment!
Wednesday: Fly back (3 hours, 42 minutes + all that time at the airport security, sitting at gate, sitting on the runway, etc). Some time to rest and recoup.
Thursday, Friday: Packing, getting ready for school, more time with friends.
Saturday: Drive to school (4 hours, 20 minutes) and move in! 3rd floor again, but this building has an elevator.
Sunday: Settle in a little at school, mentally prepare myself for school, run to Walmart for anything I forgot.
Monday: Classes start!!
So for anybody who's still with me, that's insane. These next few weeks will be a crazy adventure.
Wow. Here we go.
