I have always kind of liked that question.
A doctor. A princess. A fireman. A teacher. A superhero. An animal assisted therapist.
Except when people really ask you that question for real, when you're a college student who actually has to decide what you want to do for life, the first couple answers are not so acceptable. The last one better satisfy people because it's what I want to do. I have had a couple other master plans for life in this past year (including writing reviews for Rolling Stone, which I still think is really awesome) but I think this one might stick.
So here's what that means. I knew what it was I wanted to do before I knew what I wanted to call it. I would try to explain it and say "therapy dogs, but not like therapy for dogs, you know?" and that's not really anything that's a thing.
Animal assisted therapy means taking trained animals to places where people need therapy and using the animal as a tool to aide in their recovery. The sites I found talked about using this type of therapy for terminally ill children, the elderly, and otherwise physically disabled.
Whoa. That's what I want to do. I love talking to people and helping them process through things. I love dogs and animals in general. I would love to bring a smile and a happy pet to their often times depressing hospital room.
I'm moving in today for my 2nd year of college.
Bring it.
